Due to the amount of time the filmmakers were embedded with the police department, Flint Town is able to look at all sides of the law enforcement chain of command and observe the consequences of decisions made at the top. Citizens who fear police and police who work in fear are depicted, and the filmmakers use a number of documentary techniques - direct address to the camera, ride-along footage, montage - to present a very objective view of life in an economically depressed and violent city. The Firebirds had only made the playoffs once since being relocated to Flint from Plymouth, Mich., and they were swept that season so it was a big step this year for the organization which has been plagued with controversy - its owner suspended for several seasons and this year their president suspended for life - and poor performance. This all came after Deline’s second OHL season was cancelled in 2020-21 by the COVID-19 pandemic. Deline put up career best numbers and the Firebirds won their first ever playoff series, two in fact, before falling in seven games in the Western Conference final to the Windsor Spitfires. The Peterborough native and his OHL club had a breakout season in 2021-22. Tyler Deline would love to help the Flint Firebirds go one step further next season.
